Motivation

Many athletes write me daily and thay all seem to ask the same question. "How do you stay motivated"? I never really gave it a second thought until I received so many e-mails asking this question. I had to do alot of soul searching to come up with a good answer. I believe I am self motivated and I am blessed to have that inner drive. I fell the need to improve myself every day. Not just in fitness but in my daily life. Every so often I have less then motivating days and that is when I must rely on my athletic skills that my many different coaches have instilled in me over the years. I will share a few of them to help you, if you should ever need that extra kick in the pants.

1. Put a quote or a picture on a common location. I have a picture of a gorilla doing a split on our refridgerator. This helps me to remember to stretch everyday so that I can become more flexible for the fitness routines. If a gorilla can do it...so can I.

2. Find a workout partner. You have to show up for a workout if you have someone waiting to train with you. It is much harder to back out if you have someone to answer up to.

3. Go watch a local competion to inspire you. After viewing my friends compete, I cannot wait to get back to the gym and make improvements. My friends help to motivate me when they compete!! Especially my pal Jen Hendershott!!

4. Video tape yourself. A picture is worth a thousand words.

5. Watch a great action adventure movie. When I dove in High school and college, we would go to the movies and see something cool to motivate us for our next day's competition. Rocky will do it for me every time. I know I am dating myself now(he-he).

6. Talk to your fellow competitors about it. A thousand bucks they have gone through the same point too. I bet they could give you some encouraging words of wisdom.

Well, I hope this helps you. My thoughts and prayers are with you in all that you do!!

Best,
Allison
